Blue Justice
Faire progresser l’équité océanique au nexus des politiques de développement, de climat et de conservation
Réussir à instaurer des économies océaniques inclusives et durables, une résilience climatique à long terme et une conservation efficace de la biodiversité nécessite des actions urgentes et stratégiques à toutes les échelles, du niveau local au niveau mondial.
Les récents accords intergouvernementaux sur le développement, le climat et la biodiversité accroissent l’attention et les ressources mondiales consacrées à l’économie océanique, à l’adaptation climatique et à la conservation. Sans une attention spécifique portée à l’équité dans ces domaines politiques, à toutes les échelles du local au global, il existe un risque de mesures inadaptées et d’impacts négatifs sur la santé et le bien-être, ce qui accentuera la vulnérabilité des populations marginalisées et compromettra probablement les objectifs politiques communs.
Blue Justice produira une recherche originale et orientée solution basée sur la synthèse de plusieurs bases de données mondiales existantes et déjà assemblées sur l’adaptation climatique, le développement et les initiatives de conservation des océans. Plus précisément, Blue Justice examinera la relation entre la gouvernance des AMP et leurs effets socio-écologiques, générant de nouvelles informations sur les conditions qui favorisent l’équité et la résilience climatique dans les groupes côtiers vulnérables (dont les femmes et les populations autochtones). Blue Justice produira la première base de données mondiale sur les stratégies vers plus d’équité et de résilience dans l’adaptation climatique, le développement et la conservation marine.

Le projet Blue Justice est issu de l’appel à projet de 2020. Le processus de sélection du projet a été réalisé par un comité d’experts indépendants.

Advancing ocean equity at the nexus of development, climate and conservation policy
Ocean inequity is rising, with the benefits of marine resources increasingly concentrated among a few, while vulnerable coastal communities bear the greatest burdens. Addressing this challenge requires solutions that explicitly integrate equity, tackling the roots of structural imbalances rather than treating inequity as a secondary concern. The Blue Justice working group, supported by the Fondation pour la Recherche sur la Biodiversité (FRB) through its CESAB program, has advanced this agenda through research on the intersection of development, climate, and conservation policies.
Evidence shows that coastal communities face compounded pressures from climate change, blue growth initiatives, and conservation efforts, which can exacerbate social inequities and undermine resilience. This seminar will highlight pathways for promoting fairness and sustainability in ocean governance, emphasize inclusive decision-making, and introduce a novel tool for measuring and advancing ocean equity. The discussion will also showcase the role of grassroots resistance and community-led strategies in fostering justice, well-being, and resilience across ocean-dependent communities.
