Mithila UNKULE joined the FRB at Cesab in January 2023 as a post-doctoral fellow in the Bioforest group. Bioforest is a project aimed at understanding the effects of the environment and selective logging on tree diversity, carbon sequestration and resilience of tropical forests. The project will use data from more than 1,200 hectares of tropical forest plots from three continents to determine where efforts should be concentrated to manage forests sustainably in conjunction with biodiversity conservation practices.
In April 2025, Mithila joined the Biodiversa+ team as Business and SfN Officer.
Mithila completed her doctoral thesis on forest dynamics at INRAE in Grenoble and went on to do her first post-doc at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research. Her experience ranges from forestry and sociology to invasive species and renewable energy. Her research interests focus on understanding the impacts of human activities on ecosystems and on developing pragmatic solutions to mitigate these impacts.
In this context, she aims to combine her background in ecology with her interests in socio-economics to build interdisciplinary collaborations and devise holistic solutions to real ecological problems.
