Simon BLANCHET
CNRSResearch Director (DR2) at CNRS, Station of Theoretical and Experimental Ecology – Moulis.
Simon Blanchet is passionate about freshwater ecosystems and their finned inhabitants, and his research therefore focuses naturally on the ecology and evolution of river fish. He is particularly interested in high- and mid-altitude rivers, where he studies how fish adapt to these environments and the role they play in ecosystem functioning. These habitats are relatively species-poor, and his work aims to understand how intraspecific diversity (within species) is distributed in space and how it shapes certain ecosystem functions.
Simon Blanchet is also interested in the pressures imposed by human activities (habitat fragmentation, emerging parasites, stocking, etc.) on these ecosystems, and works in partnership with environmental managers to assess the impact of these pressures on fish populations.
Finally, he develops bioindicator tools, particularly in the context of habitat fragmentation, to support public land-use and planning policies (mitigation hierarchy, ecological corridors).
