Anne LARIGAUDERIE
Former Executive Secretary, IPBES - Independent Science and Policy Advisor
Dr. Anne Larigauderie was the Executive Secretary of IPBES between 2014 and May 2025.
She spent the first part of her career as a research scientist, working on the impact of climate change on plant physiology and ecology in various ecosystems across several continents.
She then occupied several positions at the interface between science and policy. She is the former Executive Director of DIVERSITAS, the international programme dedicated to biodiversity science.
In 2010, she was made “Chevalier dans l’Ordre national de la Légion d’Honneur” and in 2021 “Officier dans l’Ordre national de la Légion d’Honneur”. She has received several Honorary Doctoral Degrees,. Under her leadership, IPBES received several prestigious Prizes, including the Biodiversity Award of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (2021), the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity shared with IPCC (2022) and the Blue Planet Prize (2024).
Anne retired from IPBES at the end of April 2025. She now works as an independent science and policy advisor and makes sure to allocate plenty of time to running, biking, skiing, gardening and many other Nature’s Contributions to People in the company of family and friends.
