French National Research Program (PEPR) SOLU-BIOD
Innovating with nature for positive impacts on biodiversity, society, and the economy.
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are approaches to the protection, restoration, or management of ecosystems that effectively address a range of societal challenges while generating positive impacts on society, the environment, the economy, and biodiversity. To help structure and strengthen research in this field, the PEPR SOLU-BIOD has established Knowledge Hubs, organized as thematic working groups. The FRB contributes to this initiative by hosting these projects within its Centre for Biodiversity Synthesis and Analysis (Cesab) in Montpellier.
The PEPR SOLU-BIOD is funded through the France 2030 investment plan, managed by the ANR and coordinated by INRAE and the CNRS. The programme’s activities are implemented through targeted projects led by PEPR partners and through calls for proposals launched by the ANR.

As a partner of the PEPR SOLU-BIOD, the University of Montpellier leads and implements Targeted Project 3 (PC03), entitled “Knowledge Hubs”. These Knowledge Hubs are structured as working groups bringing together around fifteen national and international experts. Their objective is to create spaces for collective reflection on emerging scientific questions related to Nature-based Solutions (NbS), thereby helping to advance research frontiers in this field.
The Knowledge Hubs began their work in 2025–2026 for a three-year period within the Centre for Biodiversity Synthesis and Analysis (Cesab) of the FRB. Discover them below.
