For instance, some contain more species than others, some are taller than others. Why do these differences exist? Are they due to different climatic conditions? Due to the way grasslands are managed by farmers? Due to different soils? What is the impact\u00a0 of these differences for the functioning of these grasslands (like fodder production for example)? The<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondationbiodiversite.fr\/en\/the-frb-in-action\/programs-and-projects\/le-cesab\/divgrass\/\"> FRB-CESAB <em>DIVGRASS<\/em><\/a>\u00a0aimed to integrate and share existing knowledge on plant diversity in French\u00a0grasslands\u00a0to elucidate these puzzling questions.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" data-page-number=\"2\" data-loaded=\"true\">\n<div class=\"textLayer\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"page\" data-page-number=\"2\" data-loaded=\"true\">\n<div class=\"textLayer\">\n<div>The project proposed a unique compilation of:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>botanical sampling data,<\/li>\n<li>climate, soil and land-use information and<\/li>\n<li>information about the functional role of each grassland species (for instance their ability to capture light and transform it into energy).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"textLayer\">\n<div><strong><em>DIVGRASS<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0showed that the\u00a0<strong>ecological differences are primarily driven by soil and climate\u00a0variables only when farmers have hardly modified the grasslands.<\/strong>\u00a0Conversely, when fertilization is high, the project\u2019s researchers found an ecological homogenization of grasslands across the territory.
