{"id":20971,"date":"2023-01-19T10:12:45","date_gmt":"2023-01-19T09:12:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fondationbiodiversite.fr\/?page_id=20971"},"modified":"2026-03-18T13:43:45","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T12:43:45","slug":"bioforest","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fondationbiodiversite.fr\/en\/the-frb-in-action\/programs-and-projects\/le-cesab\/bioforest\/","title":{"rendered":"BIOFOREST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tropical forests are home to one of the greatest species diversity on Earth, but are increasingly affected by human activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Selective logging, the harvesting of a few large trees per hectare, is one of the most common uses of these forests. <strong>Yet, the way selective logging, combined with climate change, will affect tree diversity and forest recovery is still poorly understood.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>This project will use data from over 1200 ha of permanent plots of logged tropical forests on three continents<\/strong> to study the effects of logging and environmental factors on tree diversity, carbon sequestration and timber recovery. <strong><em>BIOFOREST<\/em> <\/strong>will also model forest recovery under different management practices and climate change scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>This research will help us understand how to better manage tropical forests<\/strong> for biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration and timber production.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23753\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23753\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23753 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fondationbiodiversite.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/FRB-Cesab_Bioforest_ws2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"450\" data-wp-editing=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23753\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>BIOFOREST during its second workshop at CESAB premises in September 2024.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical forests are home to one of the greatest species diversity on Earth, but are increasingly affected by human activities. &nbsp; Selective logging, the harvesting of a few large trees per hectare, is one of the most common uses of these forests.
