He studies insect\u2013plant interactions, biological control, and symbioses involving insects. Most of his research aims to test ecological theories through both field and laboratory experiments. One of his main research areas involves laboratory experiments using microcosms, in which he investigates the dynamics of complex communities of herbivores and their natural enemies.
